TOLCD1 Set In Stone

The Clare-based Kilfenora Ceili Band, famous for its many All-Ireland titles, has long been known as one of the best in the business. In recent years, a new generation of players, among them Conor McCarthy (accordion) and Annemarie McCormack (fiddle), has joined and replaced some of the musicians who started the band back in the 1950s. This recording is proof that they are worthy successors to the earlier line-up. This is great ceili band music and great Clare dance music.

CCF38CD Tulla Ceili Band - 60th Anniversary Collection

60 years is an exceptionally long time for a ceili band to remain in operation, and there's one major reason that the Tulla Ceili Band has lasted - their music is superb. The Tulla Ceili Band endures for many good reasons but principally because of their distinctive swing and great choice of tunes, this album is a testament to that. Recorded in June 2006, to mark the Band's 60th Anniversary, it is also a tribute and dedication to one of it's founders and leaders for most of its lifetime, J.Joe Hayes and also to Francie Donnellan. At an early age his love of music was encouraged by his Uncle Willie, himself a well-known musician. CHCD 47 40 Years 1957-1997

The band was formed by Brian Lawler. The name is taken from the small townland approximately one mile from Fontstown, County Kildare where Brian spent his youth. The band began broadcasting on Radio Eireann in 1957 and was one of the first to be featured on Sean O Murchu's famous 'Saturday Night Irish Dance Music' programme. That year they also won the 'Hohner All Ireland Accordian Ceili Band' competition. In 1958, the ACB provided the Monday night music in the Irish Club in Dublin on a weekly basis, and following apprearances on the legendry Irish radio programme 'Take the Floor', the band were voted the 2nd most popular Ceili band in Ireland - a rare achievement for a band only 2 years old. This period was the golden era of Ceili Music and Dance as 100s of ceili band provided music for tens of thousands of ceili dancers in the 32 counties of Ireland.

TRADCD004 Buail Cois Air

A straightforward album by the famous Connemara and Sligo accordion player P.J. Hernon. There are 24 tracks in all, arranged to provide the music for five popular sets, the Connemara, the South Galway, the Aran, the Mazurka, and the Plain. Given Hernon’s long experience with playing for dancers, this is almost like an expose on how it should be done, but one that is quite enjoyable to listen to as well. Nice tunes, great lift, eminently danceable with Micheal O'hEidhin: piano.
