GLHCD9002 Idir an da Sholas

The sisters learned most of these songs from their father Hiudai and their aunt Neili, who were well-known singers in their native Donegal. And when the two sisters join together in harmony, a sound that Maighread describes as a "miraculous collision," you can hear all the joys and sorrows of family life in their voices. In keeping with the family-gathering feeling of the songs, Maighread and Triona invited their brother Micheal, a respected musician in his own right, to back them on guitar, and their distant cousin Donal Lunny to produce the CD and play bouzouki.

CICD182 From Both Sides

Song, hospitality and poetry – three things that cannot be learned, So says the proverb. Mairéad Ní Fhlatharta’s first commercial recording proves as much: her strong, clear, distinctive voice shaping and moulding time-hallowed songs in new ways. Her influences are there for all to see on this particular musical journey: her love of tradition, strongly rooted in the ‘great’ songs she learned at the feet of the master songsmith Patsy Ó Ceannabháin, her receptiveness to newer songs, composed and sung as she was growing up, songs in English, equally a part of her tradition, and in a flourish of musical flair, the gorgeous song in Scottish Gaelic which she effortlessly makes her own. With Charlie Lennon – pianó Éilís Lennon – fidil, Johnny Óg Ó Conghaile – bosca ceoil, Steve Cooney – giotár, Síle Denvir – cláirseach, Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin – giotár, Órla Ní Cheallaigh – feadóg stáin, Máirín Kerrigan – amhránaí.

CEFCD191 Ó mo dhÚchas / From my Tradition

Long believed, by followers of the genre, to be one of, if not the finest of 'sean-nos' singers. The songs are sung, unaccompanied, in Irish Gaelic and are mainly 'ancient' in origin, from Connemara. Coming in the package is a 48 page booklet full of the history of the music and the man.
Certainly for the historian and the lover of true folk song if not for the casual listener.

CEFCD197 An Poc ar Buile agus Amhráin Eile

Seán Ó Sé came to prominence in the 1960s with the song ‘An Poc ar Buile’ which he sang with the renowned group Ceoltóirí Chualann, founded by Seán Ó Riada. The song is

still a favourite at seisiúin where everyone joins in the rousing chorus. Sean O Se contributed hugely to popularising the Cork song tradition at home and abroad - this collection brings together classic tracks.

CEFD184 Seoltai Seidte (Setting Sail)

A remarkable collection. of 20 remastered 78 rpm records made by Gael Linn from 1957 -1961. 43 tracks with a large booklet written by Nicholas Carolan. One of the most outstanding releases in recent years! Gael-Linn was the last company in Ireland to make 78 rpm records, on the basis that some of the people who enjoyed traditional music didn?t have electricity in their homes. On these two CDs there are forty-three of these old recordings, played and sung by people who were in their time acknowledged as the masters of their art. They were recorded between 1957 and 1961, and thankfully, some of the people represented are still with us (and still musically active). Among those taking part are Seosamh O hEanai , Tommy Reck, Denis Murphy, Johnny Pickering, Paddy Canny, Joe Burke, Willie Clancy and many others. All of the instrumental music is played solo and it?s great to have it available once more. Remastered to perfection by Harry Bradshaw, this collection is presented on two CDs, in a handsome DVD-style box, with a 96-page companion booklet authored by Irish Traditional Music Archives head Nicholas Carolan. The booklet, almost a book really, contains the detailed story of how the original records came to be made, comprehensive notes on all the performers and on each track, in particular with the full lyrics in Gaelic and English translation of the sean-nos songs which constitute about half the recordings.

CICD162 Sean Nos Cois Locha

Recordings made live during the Sean-Nós Milwaukee festival of sean-nós singing between 2003, its starting year, and 2005.  The list of performers includes very well-known sean-nós singers from Ireland like Bridget Fitzgerald, Áine Uí Mhuineacháin, and Meaití Jó Shéamuis Ó Fátharta, all from Connemara, Lillis Ó Laoire, from Donegal, and even Jimmy Crowley, from Cork. But part of the interest of this collection is the opportunity to discover lesser known performers, particularly Americans, whose singing is very much in the same class as that of their Irish counterparts. The 20-some page booklet contains biographical notes on the performers and full lyrics for the songs, in Gaelic and in English translation. A fine and sometimes surprising collection for anyone who is interested in the sean-nos tradition.
