Seán O Ríordáin was arguably Ireland's greatest Irish language poet of the 20th Century. This recording was made in 1969 and is now Re-Released after many years.
Gael Linn was delighted to release the readings given by the poet Máirtín Ó Direáin of his work. Generations of students have studied such poems as ‘An tEarrach Thiar’, ‘Cuireadh do Mhuire’ and ‘Cranna Foirtil’. These lyric poems by ÓDireáin’s gain an added richness when you listen to the poet himself reading them. Originally issued as an LP in 1969, the material has been unavailable for many years. Now re-mastered, the poet’s rich voice will transport you to the Aran Islands of his youth.
CCF9/11CD Fionn Mac Cumhail And..
Edmund Lenihan, a Kerryman living in Clare, is a folklorist and a schoolteacher. Having listened to a large number of traditional storytellers he began to tell traditional stories himself. He achieved a reputation and a programme on the television, and then set about recording stories. This is a double CD re-issue of two stories that were previously only available on cassette. However, these are not traditional tales - Edmund has taken characters and situations from the tradition and cleverly composed his own stories around them.
